laios is perhaps the only character not to get the “they mentioned their favorite food once and the fandom makes it their whole personality” treatment. his favorite food is cheesecake and absolutely nobody cares

mmmatchaball: AahhhHHHHH I can't believe you ship kataang too oh happy day!! If you want fic recs I have many :3
BABE, PLEASE, GIVE ME ALL THE FIC RECS. I haven’t read Kataang fanfiction since I was in the seventh grade omgosh.
*rubs hands together* OK breaking out the list. I actually haven’t looked at my Kataang ship in a while so bless you for reminding me of all these fics in my fav list.
Tales of Republic City by DJNS will wreck you. I actually haven’t cried so much at the end of a fic before but the writing is beautiful and the storytelling and depth of emotion is literally breathtaking.
Future Echoes by DJNS (and the sequel Five Days with the Avatar) is an au that’s so masterfully done. Just. This author’s writing blows me away. Literally every fic she’s written I highly recommend. BONUS all her multi-chapter fics are finished (there is a god).
The Best He Had to Give by SR240 is more centered around Sokka, but also around Kataang. Really heartwarming and will give you wonderful warm fuzzy feelings.
WRITING IN WATER Book 1: The Waterbender’s Scroll by greeneyes117 is long, slow broiled, but gets straight into the head and heart of Katara. It’s a really intimate retelling of their entire journey and I still remember some of the breathtaking imagery that was written (when you get to the Air Temple chapter, let me know because the sheer beauty of that scene made me weep).
Daddy’s Little Princess by Light-Eco-Sage is less Kataang and more centered around their family, primarily Kya and Aang. There’s a beautiful lullaby chapter that I actually sort of based my Inojin and Hima nursery headcanon off of.

Stephen King and HP Lovecraft both have this amazing ability to absorb you into a story and then abruptly remind you they’re the one writing it and they have opinions that suck.

a lot of people are afraid to admit that terrible people can make good art (music, literature, visual art) and I think it’s why so many people go down swinging to defend their favorite artist when they’re unmasked as being a horrible human being or when their controversies and problematic behavior is being addressed. like yes, that was a good book and yes, the author is a horrible person. these two facts do not necessarily contradict each other. this isn’t true for JK Rowling, who writes absolute garbage and hates trans people and pretty much every minority imaginable.

also it does feel insane how many articles will straight up say this shit and see 0 issues at all with outright pathologizing huge swathes of woman of color who have more body hair than the “average” white woman but you know im sure diagnostic criteria falls from the sky
